Little tid bit for you this week friends!
I was listening to a podcast about mindset and something they said really struck me. The big take away is that we (as in the general public) are constantly saying we are trying to do something. Trying to lose weight, trying to be more organized, trying to show up for yoga, etc. But using the word try is actually a sneaky way we are cheating ourselves, we are giving ourselves a way out before having even started. If you don’t make it to yoga then you can say “Well at least I tried…” So instead of saying trying to make changes let’s start stepping into that new role or new identity. Example, I am losing weight, I am more organized, I show up to yoga.
When you change the way you speak about things you can also start to own that new identity. Just as Coach B discussed a couple of weeks ago, and as you can learn in the book Atomic Habits, if you start to frame your language around the identity of the person you want to be, then you WILL become that person. So stop trying to do whatever it is you want to do, and start DOING it. You can have bumps in the road and some days you might not make it to yoga (life happens), but you are still a person who shows up for yoga not a person who just “try’s to”.
